Dive into a day of fun and learning at the Manta Trust’s summer Ocean School!

Manta enthusiasts, ocean fanatics, and all nature devotees get ready to embark on an immersive oceanic adventure like no other! In collaboration with WiseOceans, the UK-based charity Manta Trust is thrilled to announce the launch of its latest educational initiative, Ocean School. Perfect for any children who are dreaming of a career as a marine biologist, this event promises engaging, educational and entertaining ocean-themed activities.

The sessions are suitable for 8-12 years or 13-16 years, giving children from a variety of ages the opportunity to learn more about the amazing creatures that live below the waves. During Ocean School, children will partake in four workshops, the first will be about Ocean Giants around the world, with links back to the amazing variety of marine life around the UK. There will be a session all about manta rays, with a chance to try out research techniques (photo identification) and experience swimming with manta rays via the power of virtual reality. With a simple click, you will be transported into the magnificent underwater world, where you can swim alongside majestic mantas and come face-to-fin with vibrant marine life, all without a drop of water touching you. Prepare to be mesmerized, astounded, and, most importantly, educated. Children will explore threats to the ocean via fun games and finally have the chance to show off their newfound knowledge via a fun quiz. The session for teens will also incorporate a session relating to careers in marine biology.

Nurturing young minds and imparting valuable insights is at the heart of the Manta Trust's mission. Through a series of captivating workshops and quizzes, they're here to put your manta ray and ocean knowledge to the test. So, if you think you know the difference between Mobula alfredi and Mobula birostris, then this is your opportunity to prove it!

But don't worry, the Manta Trust Ocean School is far from being a dry marine biology lecture. Who said learning can't be fun? Get ready to mentally dive deep, solve puzzles, and outsmart your ocean-loving peers!

The Manta Trust Ocean School sessions will take place on the 16th and 23rd of August at the Branksome Dene Room in Poole, with morning sessions for 8-12 years and afternoon sessions for 13-16 years. There are a small number of discounted places for children who are in receipt of free school meals. Spaces are limited and filling up fast, so make sure to head over to the Manta Trust Education Portal to secure your spot. Remember, your curiosity is your compass, and the ocean awaits - let's dive in together!
