The East Asia Whisky Company’s Manta Ray Genesis Edition pays homage to the legacy of the now defunct distillery by reminding us that the magnificent manta rays may well share the same fate if we don’t take action.

The Italian-based Silver Seal Whisky Company has been releasing rare and prestigious whiskies and rums since 1979. Formed in 2011, the Manta Trust is a UK registered charity that co-ordinates global mobulid research and conservation efforts. Our team is comprised of a diverse group of researchers, scientists, conservationists, educators and media experts; working together to share and promote knowledge and expertise. Our mission is to conserve mobulid rays, their relatives, and their habitats, through a combination of research, education and collaboration.
Aligning on their core principles, Silver Seal and East Asia Whisky Company have joined forces to deliver an outstanding release of one of the most sought after rums from the Ghost Distillery Caroni. The powerful message that the manta ray may well face the same fate as this lost distillery is a wakeup call for us all to act fast and secure the future of these creatures as we secure that of our oceans for future generations. The Caroni Rum selected is a 1997 vintage cask that was bottled after 25 years of tropical and continental ageing. It embodies the robust and heavy spirit of the distillery but also mixes in tropical fruits, spices, and a pleasing mineral finish. The adorning artwork is the silhouette of an elusive manta ray made visible by the neon teal and royal purple clouds that emanate from its unique pattern, radiating in the colors based on the marine environment it inhabits. The unique shape of its rear pattern is derived from the tempering line of a Japanese Katana from the renowned ShinShinto Era Smith, Koyama Munetsugu.
